About The Founder

Thank you for visiting our website
How I came to start my first Nonprofit Athletes Kickin' Cancer, Inc. established in March 2006
and from there was born our new Nonprofit, Students Of Survivors, Inc..

As a young girl, at the age of 2, by the Grace of God, I won the battle against Neuroblastoma.  At the age of 37, doctors removed a cancerous tumor from my uterus but luckily, no treatments were needed.  On Jan. 27th, 2005 I was diagnosed with Stage IIIC Breast Cancer (a result of being misdiagnosed) and of course, that did involve several weeks of treatments.  It has been a long hard road but as of today I am cancer free. Some say I am living on borrowed time but I say I am living on God's time. I am a single parent of 2 children.  I have a 22 year old daughter, who played sports her whole live including soccer for the University of West Florida, as a Freshman, and is sports the writer for this web site. I also have a 17 year old son,  who also played soccer, and at the time of my diagnoses, was a Basketball player.  From the moment of diagnoses and throughout my grueling treatments I was amazed by their maturity, self discipline, strength, endurance, perseverance, and SPIRIT!  We were a team and they were more than ready to help me fight back.  They are both of good character but it became clear to me very quickly that their involvement with sports played a big role in their attitude toward what I was facing and what had to be done.  I had seen the same fight and determination from them when they were about to face championship games.  Those moments taught them how to step up and go into the fight with only a winning attitude and they did the same for me.  I never heard one moments worth of complaint from either one of them throughout my treatments.  They were nothing but positive and supportive for me and in regards to all their additional responsibilities.  They not only took care of me but took of each other, too.  Athletes are the most amazing people with strength of mind that goes beyond explanation.  Sports’ has without question helped me raise my children and helped to teach them how to be winners in life.

I dedicate this site to my children and all other athletes.

May God Bless each and every one of you!

Sincerely,
Pat

Thank you for your support!

As an added note: The reason my Breast Cancer diagnoses was advanced was because I had been misdiagnosed 2 years earlier. I was told no biopsy was needed and "Good news! You do not have cancer." I can not stress enough how important it is to get that second opinion. I, of course, have since learned, that such a diagnoses cannot be made without a biopsy. I know it is exciting to get that good report but please get that second opinion because it just may save your life.

I experienced the healing power of our Good Lord during my chemo treatments and you can read about my experience in a new book that has just been released called, Behind The Scenes of Breast Cancer written by ABC Head News Anchor, Brenda Ladun, of Birmingham, Alabama, also, a Breast Cancer suvivor. My story is at the beginning of her third chapter entitled "Supernatural Healing." This book is full of encouragement for Breast Cancer patients and survivors.
